The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a boating
accident that occurred on June 9, 2013 near Sands
Cut at Elliot Key, Florida. A 36 foot recreational
vessel was carrying 16 passengers when it collided
with a 28 foot boat carrying 2 passengers. At the
scene, Coast Guard small boat crews rescued 11
people that had wound up in the water. Emergency
medical service personnel were waiting for them at
Blackpoint Marina, in Cutlet Bay, Florida. Following
the collision, the smaller vessel capsized. A
commercial salvage operation was arranged. The
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
is currently investigating the incident. Read about
