Tim Akpinar
Tim has over 30 years of experience in litigation and arbitration. He represents motorists, pedestrians, hosptial patients, deckhands, tankermen, engineers, mates, pilots, captains, commercial divers, and others injured in shoreside and marine settings.
He handles cases in the areas of general personal injury, medical malpractice, health care, maritime personal injury, hull & machinery, complex cargo, and contract matters. This includes cases involving motor vehicles, commercial vessels, recreational vessels, hospitals, and premises liability.
Tim taught law in the Global Business & Transportation Department at SUNY Maritime College and in the MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University. He worked for BAR-BRI, a bar exam prep company, helping law school graduates prepare for the New York State Bar Exam. On a limited basis, he tutors students preparing to take the Bar Exam. He was asked to cover the subject of limitation of liability for the American Trial Lawyers Association (Defeating Limitation of Liability in Maritime Law).
Tim worked as an environmental engineer for an 826 MW generating station, where he trained NYC firefighters in first-responder plant hazards that included 138,000-volt equipment, high-pressure superheated steam, and bulk chemical storage. He worked as a shift supervisor at a 425 MW station, responsible for the operation of steam turbines, generators, boilers, and diesels.
Tim covers maritime law topics for commercial maritime and boating magazines, including WorkBoat, The Ensign (US Power Squadron), Offshore, Marine Officer, and LI Boating World.
