The National Transportation Safety Board completed initial review of
the digital video recorder system recovered from the DUKW that
involved a DUKW vessel carrying 29 passengers and 2
crewmembers on Table Rock Lake. The vessel was caught on the
lake when weather conditions deteriorated.
The NTSB investigation does not yet yield any conclusions about
the accident, as the information is still preliminary. The data
recorded passenger boarding, a safety briefing, and water
splashing inside the passenger compartment.
While the NTSB will continue to investigate the matter, maritime
attorneys have commenced wrongful death actions in representing
the passengers. As in any boating accident or passenger vessel
accident, issues inherent to the vessel will be examined in great
detail, such as stability, unseaworthiness, safety features, design
flaws, and operational factors.
